Hoping to rival with other video competitors such as YouTube and Snapchat, IGTV allows its users to create their own channels and upload 15-second to 60-minute videos to the platform. Instagram is capitalizing on creating and sharing engaging content with a true mobile focus, meaning videos will be shown in all its vertical, fullscreen glory. It’s also very simple to use. Much like a television, a video will begin playing once you open IGTV and users can “change the channel” by selecting a new video underneath the “For You”, “Following”, “Popular” or “Continue Watching” categories, or by searching for a specific channel.

Users can access IGTV through two different directions: through the Instagram app itself by selecting the television icon on the top right corner of the screen, or through the standalone IGTV app that’s now available for free download on iOS and Android.

This new service no doubt will cause an influx of users to create their own channels and start posting and creating their own content. Instagram is confident in this as well. In fact, as part of their announcement of IGTV they stated “by 2021, mobile video will account for 78% of total mobile data traffic.” Not only that, they learned that “younger audiences are spending more time with amateur content creators and less time with professionals”.

So if you’re itching to create something new and share it with the world, IGTV can be the platform just for you! Here are a few content ideas you can use to kickstart your channel:

  • Hold Q&A sessions interviews
  • Discuss current events and news stories
  • Showcase how-to’s and tutorials
  • Host webinars
  • Share what’s happening at conferences and events
  • Repurpose video content

The sky’s the limit with what you can create and share, so don’t hold back! Welcome to IGTV.
