Overview

You don’t just keep up with social media — you have a point of view about where it’s going, and you’ve got the client results, the team you’ve built and the business you’ve grown to back it up. As Commit Agency’s Director of Social Media, you’ll own the social media department: its strategy, its people, its client relationships, and its day-to-day delivery. You’ll be the senior voice on social media in every room that matters — with clients, in new business pitches and inside the agency — and you’ll build a department that consistently delivers work worth talking about.

This is a player-coach role. You’ll set the direction and you’ll be in the work — planning campaigns, reviewing content, running client meetings and rolling up your sleeves alongside your team when the moment calls for it. We’re looking for someone who thinks like an owner: someone who connects creative excellence to commercial outcomes, holds the quality bar personally, and builds people, systems and standards that outlast any single campaign.

Responsibilities & Details:

Strategy & Campaign Leadership

  • Set the strategic social media direction for the agency and its clients — spanning organic, paid social boosting, influencer, content and community.
  • Lead the planning of social media campaigns and ensure the established strategy is executed effectively across the right platforms.
  • Work closely with the creative department to concept and create relevant content across social platforms; manage the content function, including internal writers, to ensure everything is produced and delivered per client scopes of work.
  • Ensure social media efforts are integrated with broader marketing and advertising initiatives — working closely with Creative, Account, PR and Digital teams — to maintain brand consistency and amplify influence through great brand experiences.

Department Leadership & Commercial Performance

  • Own the social media department’s performance — including utilization, staffing plans and resource allocation — in partnership with agency leadership.
  • Shape how social media work is scoped, priced and staffed across the client roster; ensure scopes of work reflect the true cost and value of the department’s output.
  • Manage the department’s day-to-day workflow — scheduling, prioritization and production support — ensuring deadlines and budget constraints are met.
  • Own quality assurance for the department: every deliverable presented to clients is strategic, on-brand, on-time and error-free.
Report on department health — financial and operational — to agency leadership with clarity and candor.

Talent & Team Building

  • Structure and develop the social media team; own org design for the department, including role definitions and growth paths.
  • Mentor and coach team members for growth beyond their comfort zones; conduct performance reviews and hold the team accountable to clear expectations.
  • Build camaraderie within the social team and across departments; cultivate a positive, proactive work environment in line with agency values and policies.

Client Leadership

  • Serve as the senior social media voice in client relationships: present and sell work, push clients toward fresh thinking, and cultivate relationships that deepen and retain accounts.
  • Schedule and lead client and internal meetings; keep the account team aware of outside services and materials costs.

Performance, Analytics & Measurement

  • Define the agency’s measurement philosophy for social — attribution, reporting standards and analytics storytelling — and ensure campaign activity and performance are continuously analyzed, measured and reported to clients.
  • Proactively identify underperforming campaigns and work hands-on with the team to diagnose, adjust and improve.
  • Own the department’s toolset (publishing, listening, analytics and reporting platforms), including day-to-day administration and vendor and partner relationships, ensuring optimal performance and cost.

New Business & Agency Growth

  • Lead the social media strategy component of new business pitches; be a compelling presence in the pitch room.
  • Identify and pursue organic growth opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Represent Commit externally as a thought leader on social media — through speaking, writing and industry presence — raising the agency’s profile.

Innovation & The Road Ahead

  • Bring a clear, informed point of view on how AI is reshaping content production, community management and social strategy — and lead the department’s adoption of tools and workflows that raise quality and margin.
  • Keep the agency ahead of platform shifts, algorithm changes and emerging channels — and educate the broader team on what you’ve learned.
  • Facilitate and promote agency initiatives and values; offer creative ideas and encourage others to share theirs.

Qualifications:

  • Seven or more years of experience in social media marketing, with at least three years leading teams and owning strategy — while staying hands-on in the work.
  • Marketing agency experience required, including direct client relationship ownership.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen: experience with scoping, budgets, department or account profitability, and resource planning.
  • A track record of hiring, developing and retaining strong teams.
  • Proven ability to run multiple campaigns and projects simultaneously and switch between them seamlessly, meeting deadlines and budgets.
  • Fluency across organic and paid social, influencer marketing, analytics platforms and social publishing/monitoring tools.
  • A credible, current perspective on AI’s role in content and social operations.
  • Experience contributing to — and winning — new business.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to executives and clients.
  • A collaborative spirit, a positive working attitude and a genuine passion for every facet of social media — from platforms and trends to analytics and insights.
