In December, our marketing firm helped launch a new luxury lifestyle hotel in the Biltmore neighborhood: The Camby. Named after its proximity to the iconic local landmark, Camelback Mountain, The Camby strives to communicate Phoenix authenticity through southwestern chic design and locally-sourced ingredients. Formerly the Ritz-Carlton Phoenix, we got to get our hands dirty as we brought the branding to life.
As the first Autograph Collection hotel in Arizona (Marriott’s portfolio of hotels recognized for celebrating individuality), The Camby is “exactly like nothing else,” exuding an atmosphere of Refined Revelry. Statement-making designs like a light fixture emblazoned with the word “chandelier” cause guests to do a double-take as they progress through the lobby and meeting spaces. Additional design elements are inspired by Arizona’s Five C’s: cotton, cattle, citrus, climate and copper.
The Camby does everything differently, from unique job titles like “Director of Buying Stuff” and “Chief Inspiration Officer” to the replacement of a traditional front desk with mobile concierges strolling through the lobby checking guests in on tablets. Therefore it’s no surprise that rather than a typical ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the new hotel, they held a bowtie-loosening ceremony on January 7, 2016. Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and Councilman Sal DiCiccio attended the event, among others, to celebrate the transformation of the formerly pale pink building in the Camelback Corridor to the playful Camby Hotel.
In addition to the hotel itself, there are three culinary concepts (Artizen, Crafted American Kitchen & Bar; The Bees Knees; and the Rooftop Bar), a spa, fitness center (playfully named JIM, of course), and plenty of meeting space. As a marketing firm with multiple hospitality clients, it is important to understand the unique niche each hotel or resort has, and with The Camby, that is easy to do.
