Types of Social Media Videos That Perform Best

Content Marketing, Social Media

It’s no secret that video is the most engaging type of content on social media today. It breaks away from the standard photos and status updates and lets us see things in a different light. No matter their intended purpose, videos will always connect with audiences on a deeper level and it would be wise for businesses to push out more video content.

If you’re a marketer looking to make a splash online with video, these are the types of videos you should consider creating for the best performance and sentiment:

Stories

Stories have become a widespread phenomenon in the social media world. What began on Snapchat was eventually, in my opinion, enhanced significantly with Instagram and is now making waves in other social platforms like Facebook and even YouTube.

Ephemeral content has transformed how we consume video content and businesses and marketers have taken notice. They’ve seen how much more engagement Stories can bring in versus traditional feed posts and some have made it a point to share heaps of content every day.

While you may not be in a position to create dozens of Stories per day, your business can still make an impact by being active on Stories. Share the current happenings around the office, tell a story, encourage engagement through stickers and tags, promote a new product, shadow a teammate throughout their day, the opportunities are endless. Get feedback from your followers on what they would like to see and you can craft your Stories to be a perfect springboard into them learning more about your business.

Live videos

Take a deep breath and push aside that stage fright, because incorporating live videos in your social video marketing strategy is a very hot idea.

I promise you, they won’t think that!

Much like Stories, live videos give your followers more of an insight into your business and gives them a greater understanding of your company culture.

Hosting a potluck at the office? Go Live. Having fun at an offsite event? Go Live. Want to break down your findings from a recent industry conference? Go Live. Announcing a new product or giveaway contest? Say it with me now…. Go Live!

Live videos are also a perfect landscape for your followers to interact with you. It lets them ask questions and gives you the chance to connect with them on a deeper level.

How-To’s

Depending on the business, tutorial videos can be a massive hit! I immediately think of Home Depot’s Youtube channel and how it’s just full of this kind of content. As of the time I’m writing this, nearly 20 of their videos have been viewed more than 1 MILLION times! Makes sense for them, but what if your business isn’t geared toward home improvement and DIY?

If you think of your videos in terms of providing value, then you shouldn’t stress about them not finding the right audience. Those people will find you. What matters is crafting a video that addresses a concern and solves the problem in a simple, easy-to-follow way.

Behind the Scenes

Say your latest How-To video was a hit. Wouldn’t it be nice if you had an extra camera rolling while you were shooting to capture everything else? Like the putting together of the set, or the view from the cameraman’s angle, or even the editing process?

Behind-the-scenes videos add an extra layer of depth to your content. It provides viewers with a unique perspective on how everything gets put together and how your team operates to get tasks done. Not to mention, it’s another way to show company culture in a real and authentic way.

Announcements/Reveals

Who doesn’t love a product reveal or a social media giveaway? Consider using video to get the word out about it. Not only will it naturally help your organic reach (if you post natively, of course) but you’ll be more likely to receive more engagement than a traditional image or status update.

Above all, don’t be afraid to test out different video formats with your strategy, or even combine any of these five styles together. You may find that one format surpasses the rest and modify your strategy accordingly.
