Amazon is taking over the world.
I could insert some startling fact about how much revenue the company brought in last year, but I’m sure you know it’s in the billions [you can click here if you’re interested in the numbers].
They’re the leading online retailer in the United States with no signs of slowing down.
Despite dominating the internet, Amazon recently opened their first brick and mortar retail store called Amazon 4-star. This store only offers products that are rated four stars and above, are top sellers, and are new and trending on Amazon’s website.
Whether you like it or not, this could be the future for retail stores.
Amazon 4-star only sells products customers love
Admit it. You’ve stood in at least one aisle at Target scrolling through reviews on your phone. I know I’m one of those people. Just last weekend I was standing in the baby aisle looking up which safety gate to buy. I’m glad I did because the one I was eyeing only had a 3-star rating on Amazon. Hard pass!
When you walk into an Amazon 4-star store, you won’t have to worry about purchasing a product that will leave you dissatisfied. Amazon’s new store only sells products customers truly love and recommend. With data collected from over hundreds of millions of products online, Amazon curated their stores by using some familiar categories like, “Most-Wished-For” and “Frequently Bought Together.” These features make it easier for customers to discover the best products in as little time as possible.
As more and more stores are trying out this new self-checkout, I find myself getting attached to the self-serve model. As a typical millennial trying to avoid as much awkward human contact as possible, checking out the single item in my cart is effortless and kind of fun. At an Amazon 4-star store, you don’t even have to take out your wallet because you can pay with your Amazon Prime account to take advantage of Prime discounts.
Not among the 95 million people who have a Prime account? Don’t panic. You can still shop at the store and sign up for a 30-day free trial at checkout. It doesn’t get much easier than that!
There are fewer choices to choose from
This one is a huge deal for me and the reason why I think Amazon’s new store is winning at life.
Sometimes, too many options can be a bad thing. Take my last shopping experience at Target, for example. Even narrowing it down to five different safety gates had my head spinning. Imagine if the retailer giant narrowed down their selection to just one top-rated gate, I could’ve been in and out of there in minutes!
The grueling process of comparing products is eliminated when you step foot in one of Amazon’s 4-star stores because they’ve done all the work for you. Thanks, Amazon!
So, what do you think? Has Amazon hit the nail on the head with their new store? I’m all for it, but some of my coworkers aren’t convinced. After all, you could buy that Brita water filter in store and lug it all the way home…or you know…order it online and get it shipped to your doorstep for free the next day.
